Week Beginning the 13th January

On Monday 13th January, we had to search for context about the play “Citizenship”.
The two questions we were given were:
1. Ways to research
2. What will we research?

This was what I got from answering these questions:
National Theatre
Mark Ravenhill

I was put in a group with Hanna, Henok, Louis and Aso. In our groups we would have to make a presentation about the context of “citizenship”. We decided that Hanna and Henok would make the slide show. Myself and Louis would do the research as Aso would find photos. This showed teamwork, we decided and agreed our roles quickly as it was the end of the lesson.
We then went into our groups for “Citizenship” and rehearsed our lines. I helped Ashleigh, we worked well as a team.
Underplay = Making something less important than it is. E.g breaking your leg and saying it does not hurt.
Overplay = To make something bigger than it is. E.g If someone got a paper cut, they would act as if their finger had fallen off and scream in pain.

Work on Scripts
On Tuesday 14th January, we went into our groups for “Citizenship” and rehearsed our lines. We then went through the scenes and Rob made feedback and targets for everyone.
He wanted us to be able to improve the Target by next lesson.
This is what Rob told me:
Feedback:
1.     Can over play my character
Target for next class:
Look at Aso when saying lines. Don’t look around the room as the audience would notice that.
Take my time when saying lines. The previous customer was a woman who wanted to know if she was going to meet the man of her dreams. Business is owned by her Mum. Rob then gave us a questionnaire to fill out on our characters from “Citizenship”

In today’s Tech lesson, we worked on unit 4 of our final presentation of the ‘Silent Movies’.With our groups for that unit we looked at the EBIs and WWWs on our blogs so we could improve on our performances. We also had to look at the list of props that we needed for the film. In my group we didn’t make any changes because we thought we would improve things when going over the story in our practical lessons. Rob decided that on Mondays and Tuesdays we would work on “Citizenship” and on Thursday we would work on our ‘Silent Movies’. I enjoyed the lesson, it was nice to work with Hanna Ashleigh, Mark and Louis again on our “Silent Movie”. It seems like ages ago since making our film.
Unit 3/4.
On Thursday 16th January, we did Mime.I was partnered with Alice. We decided our scene was giving each other presents. We had to express our emotions, Alice liked her gift but I did not. After performing, the class gave us feedback. These are the suggestions they gave:
  1. We should of made it more obvious that we were opening presents.
  2. We should have shaken the presents and held them close to our ears so it was more clearer what we were miming.
  3. Use more facial expressions to show how we’re feeling, upset/happy.
Their feedback was really helpful and made sense for a better performance.Doing mime is difficult because you rely so much on speech. For the audience it can become difficult to know what the story is about.

We then got into our ‘Silent Movie’ groups. We discussed our story and decided to make changes as Mark will not be able to perform in our live performance.Louis will now play the ‘fortune teller’.

Some music students came to our lesson to watch our performance. They wanted it get an idea of the music needed to add excitement and tension to our production.
We heard the music they made, it sounded spooky,it will create an atmosphere for our haunted house scene. It will definitely help us get into character and make the audience more curious on what will happen next.

Music helps a story come to life. It was a great opportunity to work together.

This is an example of music that would be used for a horror film to create suspense.

Week Beginning the 16th March

On Monday 16 th  March,  we got into pairs and read our monologues to each other. I partnered with Louis. His monologue is about a group of teenagers who bully someone to their death, but later find out he is still alive . I thought Louis should say his monologue in a slower and clearer voice because I felt he had rushed his speech. This also showed that he was not in character. We were then given these four emotions: Happy Sad Confused Joyous We took turns to perform, the class choose the emotion for each of us to do. With my monologue, I was told to perform in a confused way. After performing Rob believed that I should talk from my stomach as I was talking from my throat. Talking from your stomach helps your voice become clearer and louder, the audience will be able to hear and see a better performance from you. I will learn from that when rehearsing at home. On Tuesday 17 th March, we made a profile for our monologues character. We wrote about who are ...

UNIT 1 - 26th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: Today in practical work the first thing we did was musical chairs.  We then went over the beginning for our piece for identity. We added a scene where class mate mark did his verbatim. The rest of us were in a semi-circle behind him. The people in the semi-circle would go to someone on the opposite side and pretend to talk with them but mouthing without speaking.  I thought whilst doing this it was silly but had a laugh. Practical Lesson 2: In the second practical, we went over what we did in the first practical lesson. The next person to do their verbatim was Simon. Whilst he was saying his we got Dee to be a lost student who couldn’t find her class. She would ask help from the people in the semi-circle but no one would help. She then went to Simon but he refuses to help her. When he leaves her the rest of us would start to circle her saying “you got no friends”. Every time we said the line the volume would get louder. We would repeat thi...
