UNIT 1 – 1st October 2019

Practical Lesson: In practical work we did a warm up for: The voice Body We then practised the dance that we will do at the end of the performance for identity. We were only able to practice the first few steps. We then went to the theatre in order to get use to the new space that we will be performing in. This also helped us to project our voices louder so the people at the back of the theatre could hear what we were saying. From re-rehearsing a lot we were able to improve and able to look more professional. Tech Work - unit 2:  In tech work this was our last lesson to finish our essays about a theatre element e.g. Costume designer Lighting designer Make-up and hair Prop designer When we were told that this was our last lesson. I was a bit nervous and scared because I didn’t know if I was able to finish it by the end of the lesson. But in the end I finished it and I was able to email it to my teacher Becca.

UNIT 1 – 30th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: We started the lesson with a body warm up. We then played musical chairs. Afterwards, we had to think of a situation and perform it to the rest of the class. So we got up one by one with an idea of a situation. The tricky bit was not being allowed to talk. Some people picked the following situations: Getting ready for dinner Getting a call for an audition Seeing a family member which you haven’t seen in a long time Waiting to for a limo to come for a prom After we performed, the rest of the class would have to guess what it was. We then showed Shenagh our performance for identity as she hadn’t seen it. Her thoughts about it was that it was very good.  We then performed our verbatim.  Whilst people did their verbatim the rest of the class would do a background performance. For Alana’s verbatim on the lines: “Have you ever had to shout louder than you have too? “ “Or yell just because you are a female” “Well maybe you should live in a wome...

UNIT 1 - 26th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: Today in practical work the first thing we did was musical chairs.  We then went over the beginning for our piece for identity. We added a scene where class mate mark did his verbatim. The rest of us were in a semi-circle behind him. The people in the semi-circle would go to someone on the opposite side and pretend to talk with them but mouthing without speaking.  I thought whilst doing this it was silly but had a laugh. Practical Lesson 2: In the second practical, we went over what we did in the first practical lesson. The next person to do their verbatim was Simon. Whilst he was saying his we got Dee to be a lost student who couldn’t find her class. She would ask help from the people in the semi-circle but no one would help. She then went to Simon but he refuses to help her. When he leaves her the rest of us would start to circle her saying “you got no friends”. Every time we said the line the volume would get louder. We would repeat thi...

UNIT 1 - 24th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: Today in practical work the first thing we did was warm ups for the body. We then got into pairs and named ourselves A and B. A’s would control B’s with their finger. A’s would have their finger a couple of places away from B’s nose and A’s would move their finger in different directions and B’s would have to follow it. We then had to switch roles. We then developed our piece for identity. I think I’m developing: How to exaggerate my roles/ characters. Staying in role/character Eye contact Staying in position- be aware of stage position Positive mind-set Self confidence Afterwards we practised our piece for identity and how we would start. We were only able to: Do poses that identify as us and who were are as a person Someone talked about what our performance and what we have been doing Did our freeze frames from yesterday about women, men and what the older generation think of young people We went into a semi-circle and...

UNIT 1 - 23rd September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: Task One We did the 'one worded game' and then we were then allowed to use two words. In the one worded game we go around in a group circle and a say a word. Each word together makes up a story. Task Two We then got into groups of four and had to do a freeze frame of something popular which will represent a country. Task Three (Verbatim) We then in those groups and had to share our recordings on our phones of a family member or a friend, where we asked them the following questions: What Identity means to them Themselves.i.e. who they are? Where they grew up? What they did as young people? Happy times... Challenging times... What they think has changed in their lifetime... What’s important to them? And the future? My interview was with my dad. After sharing them in our groups, we swapped phones and performed another person’s interview, acting like that person. One of my group member listen to my recording and performed it to ...

UNIT 1 - 19th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: We started with a body warm up: The body The voice - tongue twisters. We got in pairs and we had a conversation with the two tongue twisters that we were given. Task One In our pairs we had to name ourselves A and B. A had to go in a circle with the other As and think of an opening line. Bs would then go to their partner and A would start the conversation with their opening line to have a conversation. Afterwards Bs moved to their left to talk to someone else to talk to. Bs would then swap roles and have to think of an opening line. Task Two We then had to have another partner and have a conversation where we could only talk with a line and the last line had to be 'that's all I ever wanted'. This was my conversation with my partner: A - Your mum said you were saving up for a book B – Yeah A - So here, I got it for you B - How much was it? A - It doesn't matter B - Why won't you tell me? A - Because I decided to g...

UNIT 1 - 17th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: We started with a body warm up: Roll shoulders at the same time in the same direction but then roll in the opposite directions. e.g. one shoulder goes left backwards and the other goes right forwards and then switch shoulders. Roll body to the ground starting with head rolling down body leading with the shoulders all the way to the floor and try to touch your toes. Then to slowly roll back up (you can bend your knees a little to make it easier) Task One We then got into pairs, named ourselves A and B. The exercise was to breathe in and let your tummy out. Person A would do the breathing and Person B would put their right hand on As shoulder and left hand on As stomach. We were supposed to say if the stomach was going in or out and I found this difficult as I didn't know how to really do it. Task Two With the same partner we had to get a chair and one of us sit in it and lean forward with your chest on your legs with your arms dropped to the sid...

UNIT 1 - 16th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: We talked about Verbatim Theatre Verbatim is an even that has happened to people who have experienced: Death Loss War Fear The words from those people are used by actors to tell the story. Those actors might have not experienced that so they can’t change the words from the person that has experienced it. Task One We got into groups of four and we talked about what could be performed at Verbatim Theatre. Some of the ideas we thought of were: Brexit Murder Nine Eleven Task Two We then got into pairs and recorded in turn, each of us talking about when we were the most angriest and when we were the happiest. We then listened to the recordings and had to act like each other copying their voice. We then had a choice of performing it to the rest of the class by trying to remember what you partner said (but could listen to the recording for help). It was very interesting to see and hear how other people think other people sound and some wer...

UNIT 1 - 12th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: Task One The first thing we did were warm ups for the body, voice and tongue exercise We were given a sheet of paper with five different tongue twisters. We were able to read them but we then had to go up one by one in front of each other. Instead of picking our own tongue twisters, we had to choose one for each other. This was scary as you did not know which one was going to be picked for you to do. Task Two We were given another sheet of paper where it had a spider diagram with the title 'Identity' in the middle. We were then told to write things we thought of when we heard or read the word 'Identity'. I wrote: Name Where you were born (hospital, country, city) When you were born How you dress How you act What type of education you have or had After writing our thoughts we went round and shared three of the things we wrote. This was helpful as we were able to see if people had similar thoughts. Task Three We got i...

UNIT 1 - 10th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: Task One We started with warm ups, exercises for the tongue, the body, voice and tongue-twisters. Task Two We then got into pairs and we had to start the sentence with the letter from the alphabet. Task Three We had an empty bottle in the middle of a circle that we were in and we would take it in turns to use the bottle as something else (but not as a bottle). When it was my turn I used the bottle as a plane and had it flying in the air. Task Four For this task we were given a tongue-twister. Most of the words began with 'th' which made it difficult, but fun. At the beginning we said it all together as a class but then we had to say it by ourselves in front of each other which made me feel nervous. Task Five The teacher randomly chose someone to stand in the front so that everyone would stare at. That person was me and it made me feel awkward and strange. The other students staring felt creepy as they were just staring at me. Tas...

Today was the first day of doing Level 2 - Acting at Westminster Kingsway College. Practical Lesson 1: Task One The first lesson was practical work. We started with warm ups for our voice and body so that we would not injure ourselves. We then did name games so that we could refresh our memories from the induction day and get to know each other more. Task Two We then got into groups of threes and fours and had to do a spider diagram of 'Identity'. After presenting our ideas most students listed identity as politics, family, religion, how you dress and your sexuality. Tutorial: For our tutorial we went into the computer room and were given our usernames and passwords for logging into the college sites. Practical Lesson 2: Task One In lesson we played more name games, but this time it was to help our teacher to remember our names. Task Two For this game we got into pairs and named ourselves A and B. Person A would put their index finger a few inches awa...
