Week Beginning the 28th October

On Monday as part on Unit 3 we talked as a class about the bad things that happen in horror films e.g. An example of a Ouija board Car breaks down Going into basements Always going to find out what is happening People dying Ouija board We then had to get into the group we were in last term that we did the haunted house performances. A new student called Louis was put in our group, we told him what our performance was about, and he thought it was very good. We had to make certain changes such as Mark would only be the fortune teller and Louis would be our friend instead of Mark being the friend and the fortune teller. We had to add some of the ideas about the bad things happens in horror films.  We picked: Car breaks down Ouija board We then went over our performance with the new ideas. We had to talk about where we would add them so the Ouija board would be at the beginning of the performance and the car breaking down would be at the end. We were only able to d...

Unit 1 & 3 - 10th October 2019

Practical work 1: We were given a sheet which was about our Identity performance. We had to answer these 3 questions: 1. What were the skills we identified that performers need? 2. What do you feel you have developed and say why you feel that you have? 3. What are your personal targets for the next project? For the first question I wrote: 1. Projection 2. Stay in role 3. Confidence 4. Clear voice 5. Good listening skills 6. Focus 7. Facial expressions 8. Teamwork 9. Taking your time For the second question: 1. I have developed my confidence with my classmates because I am able to give ideas for improvisation, class discussions and mix with them outside of class. 2. My voice because I have been able to speak louder and clearer. 3. I have been able to take my time when doing my verbatim, really thinking about how to perform my lines. This is because my verbatim was from my dad which was easy to do because he took pauses and spoke in a...

Unit 1 - 9th October 2019

Final performance for Identity. Today was our Identity performance. I felt quite nervous but excited at the same time. I was nervous about the audience not liking it but excited to be able to finally show everyone what we have worked on. Our performance was amazing. In one scene, Hanna was told how pretty she was and how nice her jacket was but behind her back we pulled disgusted faces which made the audience react with “ooooh” and laughs. Another scene that the audience got involved with our performance was the dance. The audience cheered and clapped which made us feel confident and positive with our performance. There were some technical issues just before the dance. The lighting and sound students were having trouble getting the music started so we had to wait a while before we could continue. Whilst waiting we were all looking at each other nervously and not sure what to do but the music finally started, we were able to continue with the performance. Even though we waite...

UNIT 1 - 8th October 2019

Practical work 1: For the first half of the lesson we played games: Splat One worded game - 2 people go in front of the class and were only allowed to say 1 word each. This was a challenge as we didn't know what word our partner was going to say. So it was all improvisation.  The next game, 2 people went on stage, Rob gave a line each but neither of them knew what the other person was going to say. This improvisation game was quite difficult as we had to try and say the line at the right time.  After doing the games we went over our performances for Identity. We were only allowed to rehearse it once. It was a success as we didn’t stop, we were all able to stay in character except at the end when Dee had to do an introduction for the dance. She was supposed to say “and this is us” but she forgot to say it, so we had to remind her. But overall this was the most successful run through we have ever rehearsed. We then had to fill out a form about what we wanted Ro...

UNIT 1 - 7th October 2019

Practical lesson 1: The first lesson was practical work. We started the lesson with a warm up for: The body  The voice  Energy – Helping us wake up as this class is early in the morning  Afterwards we went over our performance for Wednesday. When rehearsing everyone was not in character so the performance didn’t look it’s best. When going over the performances some people would get inpatient and annoyed which wasn’t good as it showed we were not working together. We then went over the dance routine. The people who were in the dance had to start at the beginning as Dee wasn’t here on Thursday to learn the rest of the dance. This showed teamwork and patience as they helped her with the dance. The teacher Shenagh got them to start the dance without the music and do the movements at a slow pace. As everyone improved, they got to do the moves faster but sometimes they would have to do it slow again as some would do something incorrect. Then everyone in the...

UNIT 1 – 3rd October 2019

Practical Lesson 1: We went to the theatre to do warm ups and go over our performance ‘Identity’. These are the warm ups we did:         Body warm ups (stretches)      Breathing techniques One of the breathing exercises helps with your posture. The rehearsals today were quite messy as some of the students could not remember their lines and what was happening. Our teacher Rob wanted us to get into character, to make the performance look more professional. The second time we went over the piece I was able to get into character, this was achieved by taking my time adding pauses to my performance that gave my piece more emotion. I was really proud of myself.  Practical Lesson 2: The whole lesson was spent practising the African dance with Simon our choreographer and classmate. Ashley and I were excused because we felt we were not confident enough to do the dance also it was not part of our identity. So, ...

UNIT 1 – 1st October 2019

Practical Lesson: In practical work we did a warm up for: The voice Body We then practised the dance that we will do at the end of the performance for identity. We were only able to practice the first few steps. We then went to the theatre in order to get use to the new space that we will be performing in. This also helped us to project our voices louder so the people at the back of the theatre could hear what we were saying. From re-rehearsing a lot we were able to improve and able to look more professional. Tech Work - unit 2:  In tech work this was our last lesson to finish our essays about a theatre element e.g. Costume designer Lighting designer Make-up and hair Prop designer When we were told that this was our last lesson. I was a bit nervous and scared because I didn’t know if I was able to finish it by the end of the lesson. But in the end I finished it and I was able to email it to my teacher Becca.

UNIT 1 – 30th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: We started the lesson with a body warm up. We then played musical chairs. Afterwards, we had to think of a situation and perform it to the rest of the class. So we got up one by one with an idea of a situation. The tricky bit was not being allowed to talk. Some people picked the following situations: Getting ready for dinner Getting a call for an audition Seeing a family member which you haven’t seen in a long time Waiting to for a limo to come for a prom After we performed, the rest of the class would have to guess what it was. We then showed Shenagh our performance for identity as she hadn’t seen it. Her thoughts about it was that it was very good.  We then performed our verbatim.  Whilst people did their verbatim the rest of the class would do a background performance. For Alana’s verbatim on the lines: “Have you ever had to shout louder than you have too? “ “Or yell just because you are a female” “Well maybe you should live in a wome...

UNIT 1 - 26th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: Today in practical work the first thing we did was musical chairs.  We then went over the beginning for our piece for identity. We added a scene where class mate mark did his verbatim. The rest of us were in a semi-circle behind him. The people in the semi-circle would go to someone on the opposite side and pretend to talk with them but mouthing without speaking.  I thought whilst doing this it was silly but had a laugh. Practical Lesson 2: In the second practical, we went over what we did in the first practical lesson. The next person to do their verbatim was Simon. Whilst he was saying his we got Dee to be a lost student who couldn’t find her class. She would ask help from the people in the semi-circle but no one would help. She then went to Simon but he refuses to help her. When he leaves her the rest of us would start to circle her saying “you got no friends”. Every time we said the line the volume would get louder. We would repeat thi...

UNIT 1 - 24th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: Today in practical work the first thing we did was warm ups for the body. We then got into pairs and named ourselves A and B. A’s would control B’s with their finger. A’s would have their finger a couple of places away from B’s nose and A’s would move their finger in different directions and B’s would have to follow it. We then had to switch roles. We then developed our piece for identity. I think I’m developing: How to exaggerate my roles/ characters. Staying in role/character Eye contact Staying in position- be aware of stage position Positive mind-set Self confidence Afterwards we practised our piece for identity and how we would start. We were only able to: Do poses that identify as us and who were are as a person Someone talked about what our performance and what we have been doing Did our freeze frames from yesterday about women, men and what the older generation think of young people We went into a semi-circle and...

UNIT 1 - 23rd September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: Task One We did the 'one worded game' and then we were then allowed to use two words. In the one worded game we go around in a group circle and a say a word. Each word together makes up a story. Task Two We then got into groups of four and had to do a freeze frame of something popular which will represent a country. Task Three (Verbatim) We then in those groups and had to share our recordings on our phones of a family member or a friend, where we asked them the following questions: What Identity means to them Themselves.i.e. who they are? Where they grew up? What they did as young people? Happy times... Challenging times... What they think has changed in their lifetime... What’s important to them? And the future? My interview was with my dad. After sharing them in our groups, we swapped phones and performed another person’s interview, acting like that person. One of my group member listen to my recording and performed it to ...

UNIT 1 - 19th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: We started with a body warm up: The body The voice - tongue twisters. We got in pairs and we had a conversation with the two tongue twisters that we were given. Task One In our pairs we had to name ourselves A and B. A had to go in a circle with the other As and think of an opening line. Bs would then go to their partner and A would start the conversation with their opening line to have a conversation. Afterwards Bs moved to their left to talk to someone else to talk to. Bs would then swap roles and have to think of an opening line. Task Two We then had to have another partner and have a conversation where we could only talk with a line and the last line had to be 'that's all I ever wanted'. This was my conversation with my partner: A - Your mum said you were saving up for a book B – Yeah A - So here, I got it for you B - How much was it? A - It doesn't matter B - Why won't you tell me? A - Because I decided to g...

UNIT 1 - 17th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: We started with a body warm up: Roll shoulders at the same time in the same direction but then roll in the opposite directions. e.g. one shoulder goes left backwards and the other goes right forwards and then switch shoulders. Roll body to the ground starting with head rolling down body leading with the shoulders all the way to the floor and try to touch your toes. Then to slowly roll back up (you can bend your knees a little to make it easier) Task One We then got into pairs, named ourselves A and B. The exercise was to breathe in and let your tummy out. Person A would do the breathing and Person B would put their right hand on As shoulder and left hand on As stomach. We were supposed to say if the stomach was going in or out and I found this difficult as I didn't know how to really do it. Task Two With the same partner we had to get a chair and one of us sit in it and lean forward with your chest on your legs with your arms dropped to the sid...
