Week Beginning the 4th November

On Monday 4th November we watched the videos that Rob took of our haunted houses performances and shenagh gave each group improvements. For my group we had to make the last scene very clear as she didn’t understand. We then had to do Scene break down for silent movie.

Scene 1 - Setting / friend’s house 4 friends are playing the Ouija board and we ask 2 questions. This is how we did ours:
 1. Are there any spirts with us?
 2. Is something bad going to happen today?
And the answer to each question was “yes”. We then stop playing.
Scene 2 - Fun fair at the fun fair we decide to see the fortune teller. Ashleigh asks about her future, she is told that she will die in the haunted house. He then says if you chose to go in do not look at the blue light or else.
Scene 3 - See the haunted house We decide to go to the haunted house, but Ashleigh does not want to enter because she’s afraid of what the fortune teller told her. But we convince her to go in.
Scene 4 - Inside the haunted house When they walk in one of the friends looks directly at the blue light that she was told not to look at, she then becomes hypnotised and unable to move, the other friend comes in front and looks at her trying to help her when told not to, then she becomes hypnotised after the first one. The friend that came out the hypnosis stood there in confusion. Whilst one of the friends tries to help the hypnotised friend. While helping the hypnotised friend she accidentally looked at her and fell into a deep sleep. After falling into a deep sleep all her friends went back to normal and were extremely worried about the friend that had fallen asleep and tried to wake her up. Whilst trying to wake the friend up the fortune teller appeared and told them that they were wrong to come to the house and they shouldn’t have come and explain that he wants everyone’s soul as he had already take the friend who had fallen into a deep sleep. One of the friends runs away to start up the car and the two friends left in the house started to argue about if they should leave the hypnotised friend or to run away and leave.
Scene 5 – Car - The 2 friends run out of the house and jump straight into the car; the fortune teller sends the hypnotised friend to go and get the 3 friends.
Our story board
We then had to do a story board for the people who will be doing the editing and filming for our short film.

Things that went well in today’s lesson:
1. Me and my group worked as a team
2. Our rehearsals went well

On Tuesday 5th I went to see Hamilton the musical with college. It was an amazing experience to watch because even though it was a true story, the director and cast made the performance funny and sad.
The emotional scenes:

1. Hamilton’s wife Eliza finds out that he cheated on her
2. When Hamilton’s son Philip dies
3. Hamilton's death
After watching the performance we were able to meet the cast and do a Q&A. One of the questions was:
“ what advice would you give to a young person who wants to go into musical theatre?”
And the cast replied with:
“ don’t give up. Look at your self in the mirror and tell your self that you are important. But make sure whilst chasing your dreams you have a side job”

This was very inspiring because experienced actors believed in young people like me who want to go down the same path of acting like them. All the actors had amazing voices, but I got goose bumps when Eliza Hamilton (Rachelle Ann Go) and Angelica Schuyler (Allyson Ava-Brown) sang together and did their solos as I have never heard singers perform like that before.

On Thursday 7th we rehearsed our performance for our silent film. Rob put two chairs on opposite sides of each other to show how much space we have. Rob placed a chair where the rest of the class were sitting to show where the camera was. This will make us aware of how much space we have. We made a few changes: Instead of myself and Hanna having a long conversation with Mark we would have a 3 line conversation and then run away. We would film Mark and Ashleigh’s faces. Mark would be filmed pointing at myself, Hanna and Louis for Ashleigh to catch us. These changes made our performance better because we were able to put more effort into our acting skills. This was able to make our film better because it was shorter and not so long. Rob was really able to help us improve by directing us.

We also talked about the props we needed:

1. A football
2. Tin foil

Week Beginning the 13th January

On Monday 13th January, we had to search for context about the play “Citizenship”.  The two questions we were given were:  1. Ways to research  2. What will we research?  This was what I got from answering these questions:  National Theatre Mark Ravenhill I was put in a group with Hanna, Henok, Louis and Aso. In our groups we would have to make a presentation about the context of “citizenship”. We decided that Hanna and Henok would make the slide show. Myself and Louis would do the research as Aso would find photos. This showed teamwork, we decided and agreed our roles quickly as it was the end of the lesson.  We then went into our groups for “Citizenship” and rehearsed our lines. I helped Ashleigh, we worked well as a team.  Underplay  = Making something less important than it is. E.g breaking your leg and saying it does not hurt. Overplay  = To make something bigger than it is. E.g If someone got a pap...

Week Beginning the 16th March

On Monday 16 th  March,  we got into pairs and read our monologues to each other. I partnered with Louis. His monologue is about a group of teenagers who bully someone to their death, but later find out he is still alive . I thought Louis should say his monologue in a slower and clearer voice because I felt he had rushed his speech. This also showed that he was not in character. We were then given these four emotions: Happy Sad Confused Joyous We took turns to perform, the class choose the emotion for each of us to do. With my monologue, I was told to perform in a confused way. After performing Rob believed that I should talk from my stomach as I was talking from my throat. Talking from your stomach helps your voice become clearer and louder, the audience will be able to hear and see a better performance from you. I will learn from that when rehearsing at home. On Tuesday 17 th March, we made a profile for our monologues character. We wrote about who are ...

UNIT 1 - 26th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: Today in practical work the first thing we did was musical chairs.  We then went over the beginning for our piece for identity. We added a scene where class mate mark did his verbatim. The rest of us were in a semi-circle behind him. The people in the semi-circle would go to someone on the opposite side and pretend to talk with them but mouthing without speaking.  I thought whilst doing this it was silly but had a laugh. Practical Lesson 2: In the second practical, we went over what we did in the first practical lesson. The next person to do their verbatim was Simon. Whilst he was saying his we got Dee to be a lost student who couldn’t find her class. She would ask help from the people in the semi-circle but no one would help. She then went to Simon but he refuses to help her. When he leaves her the rest of us would start to circle her saying “you got no friends”. Every time we said the line the volume would get louder. We would repeat thi...
