Week Beginning the 9th December

On Monday 9th December, we were given questions which will help us discover more about the characters we are playing in “Citizenship”. For my character, the Tarot readers daughter her name is Emma, she is 29 years old, she is from a working-class background. We were then given a character sheet, this included questions on physicality, voice and facial expressions:

This was useful because I can build on my character, showing their personality and bringing them to life.
I was also given a sheet which asked me questions about where my scene with Tom will be set:

I then made a spider diagram on my character Emma, my thoughts on the other characters. This was fun to do because it helped me to understand the characters, which will improve my performance.

On Tuesday 10th December, we watched a dress rehearsal from the 2nd year students on the level 3 drama. During the rehearsal, Rob told the actors who forgot their props and who made mistakes. In general, I thought it was interesting to watch because I was able to learn what happens in rehearsals for level 3.

·         It can take time going over lines.
·         Practising your entrance.
·         Where you are positioned on stage.
·         Making sure you are projecting your voice so everyone in the audience can hear.

Tech work

For this lesson we went back to the theatre to watch the same performance again. I thought it was more professional, they looked more confident and they had all their props. I enjoyed it more than the first time as it came across as funnier because their voices were clearer and louder. The performance went at a faster pace as there were no interruptions. This conveys the importance of rehearsals for performers, to give a better show for the audience to watch.

On Thursday 12 December, we were put into two groups, we did a short performance on the Night Before Christmas. I was in a group with Ashleigh, Albiona, Henok and Aso. Our performance was about 5 siblings arguing over who gets the most presents. We see Santa placing our presents under the Christmas tree, we discover Albiona has the most presents whilst the rest of us have less. After watching both performances Rob decided that my groups performance was the best as it made him feel Christmassy, we won chocolate celebrations. We were very confident with our performance because we worked well as a team, planning the story, improvised to make the story come to life. I was happy because the group listened to my ideas which we used.

After lunch we went to the theatre to watch the final performance of the second-year level 3 students show “A Questmas Story”. The students that I did not see in rehearsals were on stage, everyone had learnt their lines as I did not see any scripts. Kieran Smith-Helder was cast as Timmy the dog. The audience laughed when he looked confused and surprised. I really laughed when he was running like a human and not as a dog. It also funny when Marley played by Lucky Asare said, “Is that dog walking?”. Another funny moment was the chase scene, Timmy the dog holding one of the kids whilst running away from the police officers, they both screamed and barked at each other. Overall this performance was very professional, it was a great Christmas panto to watch, the audience reacted with boos to the villains and cheers to the goodies of the show.

Week Beginning the 13th January

On Monday 13th January, we had to search for context about the play “Citizenship”.  The two questions we were given were:  1. Ways to research  2. What will we research?  This was what I got from answering these questions:  National Theatre Mark Ravenhill I was put in a group with Hanna, Henok, Louis and Aso. In our groups we would have to make a presentation about the context of “citizenship”. We decided that Hanna and Henok would make the slide show. Myself and Louis would do the research as Aso would find photos. This showed teamwork, we decided and agreed our roles quickly as it was the end of the lesson.  We then went into our groups for “Citizenship” and rehearsed our lines. I helped Ashleigh, we worked well as a team.  Underplay  = Making something less important than it is. E.g breaking your leg and saying it does not hurt. Overplay  = To make something bigger than it is. E.g If someone got a pap...

Week Beginning the 16th March

On Monday 16 th  March,  we got into pairs and read our monologues to each other. I partnered with Louis. His monologue is about a group of teenagers who bully someone to their death, but later find out he is still alive . I thought Louis should say his monologue in a slower and clearer voice because I felt he had rushed his speech. This also showed that he was not in character. We were then given these four emotions: Happy Sad Confused Joyous We took turns to perform, the class choose the emotion for each of us to do. With my monologue, I was told to perform in a confused way. After performing Rob believed that I should talk from my stomach as I was talking from my throat. Talking from your stomach helps your voice become clearer and louder, the audience will be able to hear and see a better performance from you. I will learn from that when rehearsing at home. On Tuesday 17 th March, we made a profile for our monologues character. We wrote about who are ...

UNIT 1 - 26th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: Today in practical work the first thing we did was musical chairs.  We then went over the beginning for our piece for identity. We added a scene where class mate mark did his verbatim. The rest of us were in a semi-circle behind him. The people in the semi-circle would go to someone on the opposite side and pretend to talk with them but mouthing without speaking.  I thought whilst doing this it was silly but had a laugh. Practical Lesson 2: In the second practical, we went over what we did in the first practical lesson. The next person to do their verbatim was Simon. Whilst he was saying his we got Dee to be a lost student who couldn’t find her class. She would ask help from the people in the semi-circle but no one would help. She then went to Simon but he refuses to help her. When he leaves her the rest of us would start to circle her saying “you got no friends”. Every time we said the line the volume would get louder. We would repeat thi...
