Week Beginning the 24th February

On Monday 24th February, we got into our Silent Movie groups and showed Shenagh our performances. Only myself, Hanna and Louis were in lesson so it was very challenging to do the scenes without Ashleigh as she is one of the main characters. We decided it would be good for Louis to play Ashleighs role. Shenagh told us whilst performing our scene to say one word that describes how we were feeling. We will not say them on the final performance but saying these words will help us express our facial expressions and body language. For example:

In Scene 1 when playing the Ouija board, I said the word “scared”, I will move my hand quickly off the board to my chest to show the audience I do not want to play the game anymore. I will frown to show fear as I have not been in this situation before.

After using the words, we did the performance without the words and showed them in our facial expressions.

In Rob’s lesson we discussed what we had learnt with Shenagh in our scenes to Ashleigh. After rehearsing we performed it in front of the class.

The improvements Rob gave us was:
  1. Take our time.
  2. Don’t have our backs to the audience.
  3. Be careful with our space because where we are performing, the stage is very small.
On Tuesday 25th February, myself and Albiona performed a scene from a script. The scene involved a mum and daughter. The mum’s brother had died, and she was annoyed that her daughter was not being respectful. I played the mum; in the scene I raised my voice to convey anger towards Albiona’s character. I had my arm crossed to show how upset I was. I was nervous whilst performing because I found it difficult reading the script whilst acting even though I felt the performance went well, we gave each other time to say the lines which helped show how we felt. After watching everyone’s performances we rehearsed our Silent Films for the rest of the lesson. We thought our rehearsal went well as we were able to stay in character.

In Tech work Silent Movie groups, we listed what we need for our performance next week.

Costume - For Louis he will wear a suit, use a scarf as a turban and a rose. Myself, Hanna and Ashleigh will wear our own clothes as we are students.
Set - 4 chairs and table.
Props - Ouija Board and tablecloth.
Lights - Ezra who will be doing the lights, sound and projection went to Camden's People Theatre to see what lights we could use.
The lights we need for our performance:
  1. Spotlight
  2. Different colour lights
  3. Flickering light
We are waiting to hear back from Ezra.

Sound - The music students are working on our music.
Projection - To show our film.
Video - USB with our Silent Film on.

On Thursday 27th February, in lesson today we worked on mime. Myself and Alice performed a sketch in a restaurant. I was the waitress and Alice was the customer. When I take the drink to her table I accidentally trip, the drink goes everywhere. I quickly rush to get tissue to clean up the mess. I then return with her plate of food. Alice then complains about the service and hair being in the food. I have to take the food away and tell her there will be no charge.
It was a fun lesson, easy to work with Alice.
When giving feedback we should not say “but” instead we should say “I observed that “
Our feedback from the class was:
  1. It was really good.
  2. They observed that we should make our facial expressions bigger.
  3. Take our time.
  4. Make sure we remember how big the objects are when miming eg: the plate I gave Alice was bigger than the one she handed back to me.
We then worked as a whole class to do a performance. It was about five students going into an exam.
My character is tired and almost falling asleep at the desk but Shaduct is keeping me awake.
Alice plays a good student waiting for the exam to begin.
Hanna is listening to music on her headphones.
Albiona is sending notes to Hanna.
Shadhuct plays the stressed teacher.

Rob went out of the class whilst we rehearsed our sketch and was unaware what our performance was about. Rob thought it was really good.

It was fun to do; everyone’s ideas were used in the performance.

I must use the comments made:
  1. Take my time in my performance
  2. Exaggerate my facial expressions because it is mime.
  3. Watch Silent Movie clips on YouTube for research.
Shocked
Take my time

Week Beginning the 13th January

On Monday 13th January, we had to search for context about the play “Citizenship”.  The two questions we were given were:  1. Ways to research  2. What will we research?  This was what I got from answering these questions:  National Theatre Mark Ravenhill I was put in a group with Hanna, Henok, Louis and Aso. In our groups we would have to make a presentation about the context of “citizenship”. We decided that Hanna and Henok would make the slide show. Myself and Louis would do the research as Aso would find photos. This showed teamwork, we decided and agreed our roles quickly as it was the end of the lesson.  We then went into our groups for “Citizenship” and rehearsed our lines. I helped Ashleigh, we worked well as a team.  Underplay  = Making something less important than it is. E.g breaking your leg and saying it does not hurt. Overplay  = To make something bigger than it is. E.g If someone got a pap...

Week Beginning the 16th March

On Monday 16 th  March,  we got into pairs and read our monologues to each other. I partnered with Louis. His monologue is about a group of teenagers who bully someone to their death, but later find out he is still alive . I thought Louis should say his monologue in a slower and clearer voice because I felt he had rushed his speech. This also showed that he was not in character. We were then given these four emotions: Happy Sad Confused Joyous We took turns to perform, the class choose the emotion for each of us to do. With my monologue, I was told to perform in a confused way. After performing Rob believed that I should talk from my stomach as I was talking from my throat. Talking from your stomach helps your voice become clearer and louder, the audience will be able to hear and see a better performance from you. I will learn from that when rehearsing at home. On Tuesday 17 th March, we made a profile for our monologues character. We wrote about who are ...

UNIT 1 - 26th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: Today in practical work the first thing we did was musical chairs.  We then went over the beginning for our piece for identity. We added a scene where class mate mark did his verbatim. The rest of us were in a semi-circle behind him. The people in the semi-circle would go to someone on the opposite side and pretend to talk with them but mouthing without speaking.  I thought whilst doing this it was silly but had a laugh. Practical Lesson 2: In the second practical, we went over what we did in the first practical lesson. The next person to do their verbatim was Simon. Whilst he was saying his we got Dee to be a lost student who couldn’t find her class. She would ask help from the people in the semi-circle but no one would help. She then went to Simon but he refuses to help her. When he leaves her the rest of us would start to circle her saying “you got no friends”. Every time we said the line the volume would get louder. We would repeat thi...
