Week Beginning the 2nd March

On Monday 2nd March, we studied mime. We were given scenes to perform.

The options for us where:
  1. Making your favourite food
  2. Babysitting and giving them food
  3. Making food for your boyfriend but putting poison in it as he cheated on you
  4. Being a chef and acting like Gordon Ramsey
I chose to mime a scene where I poison my boyfriend. After performing Shenagh told me I had good facial expressions but I should be clear about what I am making in the kitchen. So I need to make my movements more clear and exaggerated so the audience know what I am doing.

We then got into our Silent Movie groups and rehearsed our performance. We then went over it in front of the class. Shenagh gave us feedback.

Our feedback:
  1. Make our  facial expressions more over the top to show our emotions.
  2. Take our time
Shenagh then gave us all a word, we had to use facial expressions to show what that word meant. E.g:
  1. "confused" we frowned.
  2. "Happy" we gave a big smile.
  3. "scared" wide eyes and opened mouth.
Today was the last day of rehearsals for our Silent Movie. This means we had to work together as a group to make sure our performance will be great for tomorrow.

Mime was popular in ancient Greece and Rome.
Marcel Marceau was a famous Mime artists known for "Bip the Clown" he said Mime was the art of silence and performed all over the world for over 60 years.
Now in the 21st century, Mine has become less popular as we have TV, Internet and phones. We watch films with language and sadly the younger generation including me have not been brought up to watch Silent Movies. Even though YouTube allows us to watch clips from great performers such as Charlie Chaplin,Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton.

On Tuesday 3rd March, we performed our Silent Movies to family and friends at the Camden’s People Theatre. I felt nervous but excited because I was confident with my performance in rehearsal and excited to finally show it off to an audience. WWWs and EBIs I thought after doing the performance.

WWW:
  1. When Hanna wanted myself and Ashleigh to play the Ouija Board we used facial expressions to show her we did not and looked annoyed when she made us play it.
  2. The facial expressions we used was frowning
  3. We concentrated and worked as a team.
  4. Stayed in character.

EBI:
  1. We should have taken our time when performing, it felt rushed.
On Thursday 5th March, we started Unit 8, Progression.
Today we wrote our own monologues as we will be performing monologues in three weeks’ time. Whilst writing the monologues we had to think about:
  1. who am I playing?
  2. Who I am talking to?
  3. Where am I?
  4. Why am I saying the words?
  5. What am I thinking when saying the words?
This is the monologue I wrote:

  1. My character is an 18-year-old girl.
  2. Her name is Emma.
  3. I am talking to one of my siblings.
  4. I am in my bedroom at home.
  5. I am stressed and worried that my mum will get mad at me for taking her favourite earrings and losing them.

Week Beginning the 13th January

On Monday 13th January, we had to search for context about the play “Citizenship”.  The two questions we were given were:  1. Ways to research  2. What will we research?  This was what I got from answering these questions:  National Theatre Mark Ravenhill I was put in a group with Hanna, Henok, Louis and Aso. In our groups we would have to make a presentation about the context of “citizenship”. We decided that Hanna and Henok would make the slide show. Myself and Louis would do the research as Aso would find photos. This showed teamwork, we decided and agreed our roles quickly as it was the end of the lesson.  We then went into our groups for “Citizenship” and rehearsed our lines. I helped Ashleigh, we worked well as a team.  Underplay  = Making something less important than it is. E.g breaking your leg and saying it does not hurt. Overplay  = To make something bigger than it is. E.g If someone got a pap...

Week Beginning the 16th March

On Monday 16 th  March,  we got into pairs and read our monologues to each other. I partnered with Louis. His monologue is about a group of teenagers who bully someone to their death, but later find out he is still alive . I thought Louis should say his monologue in a slower and clearer voice because I felt he had rushed his speech. This also showed that he was not in character. We were then given these four emotions: Happy Sad Confused Joyous We took turns to perform, the class choose the emotion for each of us to do. With my monologue, I was told to perform in a confused way. After performing Rob believed that I should talk from my stomach as I was talking from my throat. Talking from your stomach helps your voice become clearer and louder, the audience will be able to hear and see a better performance from you. I will learn from that when rehearsing at home. On Tuesday 17 th March, we made a profile for our monologues character. We wrote about who are ...

UNIT 1 - 26th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: Today in practical work the first thing we did was musical chairs.  We then went over the beginning for our piece for identity. We added a scene where class mate mark did his verbatim. The rest of us were in a semi-circle behind him. The people in the semi-circle would go to someone on the opposite side and pretend to talk with them but mouthing without speaking.  I thought whilst doing this it was silly but had a laugh. Practical Lesson 2: In the second practical, we went over what we did in the first practical lesson. The next person to do their verbatim was Simon. Whilst he was saying his we got Dee to be a lost student who couldn’t find her class. She would ask help from the people in the semi-circle but no one would help. She then went to Simon but he refuses to help her. When he leaves her the rest of us would start to circle her saying “you got no friends”. Every time we said the line the volume would get louder. We would repeat thi...
