On Monday 11th May, this morning we went over scenes 31 – 41 of “Our Day Out” with Rob and Shenagh. Everyone was focused on their lines so reading the script went smoothly. However, because of bad internet connection, Shenagh wanted to go over scene 32 again. This is one of the reasons I find online classes difficult because hearing who is supposed to read next makes the lesson longer.
I feel my performance went well today:
On Tuesday 12th May this morning, we went over scenes 32-35 of “Our Day Out” with Rob and Shenagh. The lesson went well today as everyone was focused on their lines and the internet connection was good too. Hanna was not in class so I had to read the role of Mrs kay in scene 32, The Beach. I had to improvise on how Mrs Kay would say the lines as she is a caring teacher and everyone has had a teacher like Mrs Kay from their school. The scene went well, worked with Henock, Alana and Kenroy.
Acting skills I have learnt this year are:

I feel my performance went well today:
- I took my time when saying my lines
- My voice was clear
- I was able to convey how my character Susan was feeling at that moment. E.g in scene 33, when confronting Reilly on the line “Well, Brian … I’m here” I spoke in a slow and flirty tone which made Reilly confused and nervous.

Acting skills I have learnt this year are:
- Confidence – I talk more in class, I give ideas in group discussions and I perform in front of people without showing how nervous I am.
- Projection – I now speak with a louder and clearer voice than I did in September which has improved my performance. The volume of my voice can show how I am feeling for example if I was to shout that might convey anger or if I was to whisper that might suggest I was scared or being secretive.
- Facial expressions – I have learnt how important it is to use facial expressions when performing, I need to show the audience my feelings and thoughts as well as showing how I react to what is happening on stage or to other characters.
- Character – Staying focused is important for my performance, if I lose concentration it will affect the other actor. The audience might become confused and not believe the story. Rehearsing helps me understand my character and the story.
- Working with script – Understanding the story, when and where it is set, what theme is the play. Who is the protagonist (the main character) or antagonist (the villain). Writing annotations helps me know how I am feeling when performing the lines.
Unit 9 –
production value
I was given the task to design
a poster inviting an audience to see our class production of “Our day out” by
Willy Russell. I enjoyed this task as I was able to show my artistic side.
For the poster we had to
include this information:
This is the poster I made:
I am really proud of my work, I took a
scene from the play, which was set at the funfair, the image was colourful, I
made the writing white this made it stand out. I was able to create this piece in PowerPoint
and delivered it before the deadline. I hope it gets the attention from people
walking past.
On Thursday 14th May, we went over scenes 32-35. Everyone was in rehearsals, we concentrated on the script, however there were problems with the internet, as some could not hear who was reading. After rehearsing, Rob recorded us, he has also added an end scene to “Our Day Out”, my line is “Everyone sitting down?”. I have decided to perform with a cheerful but serious tone of voice, this is to show Susan has enjoyed the day but as a teacher she is still responsible for the kids. I think today went well, we worked as a team, I feel we have grown in confidence with understanding our characters which you can hear when saying our lines.
