Week Beginning the 4th May

On Monday 4th May, I had a Zoom call with Shenagh and my class this morning. We read through the script of “Our Day Out”. We went over scenes 1 to 4. Due to COVID-19 and not being at college, rehearsing from home by computer or phone can cause problems. One of the difficulties that arose in today’s lesson was not being able to follow the script smoothly, people had to be told when it was their line. I found it frustrating because I have been practicing my lines every day and I concentrate during the lesson. Shenagh suggested to the class that they should get familiar with the script for next lesson so we can get through more scenes and bring the play to life.
On Tuesday 5th May, myself and the class rehearsed the script of “Our Day Out” with Chris, our TA this morning. Once again, I found it frustrating because the class was not focused, people still had to be told when it was their line. However, Chris decided it would be a good idea to discuss how each scene went after reading our lines. We all agreed that we need to make the lines flow and be more enthusiastic. Hopefully, these tips and suggestions will be used in the next lesson. Reading through scenes 2 and 4 more than once, helped make the lines flow which shows we really need to concentrate. By the end of the lesson we had gone over scenes 1 to 5.
I read through my lines and wrote annotations on how I would perform them. For example, on the line “make sure we don’t enjoy ourselves” I would say this in a disappointed tone after discovering Briggs is joining them on the school trip as Susan and the class will not be able to have a fun day out.

Unit 9 – “Production Value”

I have decided to do the set design for the coach in scene 5 for the play “Our Day Out”. I would have rows of seats with two on each side with an aisle in between. The passenger seats would be in red fabric. The backdrop would have the view from the back window of the coach for example if there was traffic behind them you would see cars. There would be one single chair at the front of the stage for the driver, this chair would be in brown leather. For the sides of the coach I would use wood as the frame and paint it brown with acrylic panels as the windows.  By the side of the coach there would be a chair to symbolise a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

On Thursday 7th May, myself and the class rehearsed the script of “Our Day Out” with Rob this morning. We read from scenes 6-31. Today was an improvement because everyone was able to concentrate, however there were times when we had to repeat scenes because some people did not read their lines on time and Rob had to give direction. I read the lines of “Girl 1” in the zoo scene, when performing I behaved like a stroppy teenager from her first line. “How do you know? Sir’s just told y’ hasn’t he?” I have been thinking about how different rehearsals have been since lockdown. If we were at college, we would be standing around each other but now we are rehearsing on camera, I find this difficult because sometimes there are delays with people’s connection on the internet. I feel I am using more facial expressions which is a good thing because we are on camera however our movements are limited which makes it hard to show how our characters act.

Week Beginning the 13th January

On Monday 13th January, we had to search for context about the play “Citizenship”.  The two questions we were given were:  1. Ways to research  2. What will we research?  This was what I got from answering these questions:  National Theatre Mark Ravenhill I was put in a group with Hanna, Henok, Louis and Aso. In our groups we would have to make a presentation about the context of “citizenship”. We decided that Hanna and Henok would make the slide show. Myself and Louis would do the research as Aso would find photos. This showed teamwork, we decided and agreed our roles quickly as it was the end of the lesson.  We then went into our groups for “Citizenship” and rehearsed our lines. I helped Ashleigh, we worked well as a team.  Underplay  = Making something less important than it is. E.g breaking your leg and saying it does not hurt. Overplay  = To make something bigger than it is. E.g If someone got a pap...

Week Beginning the 16th March

On Monday 16 th  March,  we got into pairs and read our monologues to each other. I partnered with Louis. His monologue is about a group of teenagers who bully someone to their death, but later find out he is still alive . I thought Louis should say his monologue in a slower and clearer voice because I felt he had rushed his speech. This also showed that he was not in character. We were then given these four emotions: Happy Sad Confused Joyous We took turns to perform, the class choose the emotion for each of us to do. With my monologue, I was told to perform in a confused way. After performing Rob believed that I should talk from my stomach as I was talking from my throat. Talking from your stomach helps your voice become clearer and louder, the audience will be able to hear and see a better performance from you. I will learn from that when rehearsing at home. On Tuesday 17 th March, we made a profile for our monologues character. We wrote about who are ...

UNIT 1 - 26th September 2019

Practical Lesson 1: Today in practical work the first thing we did was musical chairs.  We then went over the beginning for our piece for identity. We added a scene where class mate mark did his verbatim. The rest of us were in a semi-circle behind him. The people in the semi-circle would go to someone on the opposite side and pretend to talk with them but mouthing without speaking.  I thought whilst doing this it was silly but had a laugh. Practical Lesson 2: In the second practical, we went over what we did in the first practical lesson. The next person to do their verbatim was Simon. Whilst he was saying his we got Dee to be a lost student who couldn’t find her class. She would ask help from the people in the semi-circle but no one would help. She then went to Simon but he refuses to help her. When he leaves her the rest of us would start to circle her saying “you got no friends”. Every time we said the line the volume would get louder. We would repeat thi...
